I always tell myself I want to change.
I guess there really should be no more buts this time.

I'm trying to give myself as many opportunities as possible to finally grow up.

Onto different matters.

My mum has been here. I've forgotten what a little girl I am. It's also reminded me of everything I've done to change. More and more I give my parents advice, and more and more they are unable to help me. It's a strange feeling, where you gain a friend but lose a mentor. Or maybe I shouldn't think of it in that way. Maybe I shouldn't assume so much and just say that I'm growing up.

I'm trying to do more with my time. Well, I was.
Once again, I'm caught in the flood of assignments and whatnot. I'm already behind, with my fucked up computer, etc etc. I've finally realised the value of connections, small as they may seem at first. So, another goal of mine is to be more open. A small step. Return missed calls. Reply emails. Say hi to people I think I know instead of hiding my face.

Don't know how far I'll get with this... but you know, even thinking this thought is something.

In Starbucks, Wan Chai, waiting for a bus to Zhongshan.
Spent a whopping $100CAD/day here, but I guess that's okay.
Funny thing is, I find myself now rejecting the local brands for more well known brands in my time shopping.
I opt for quality nowadays, as opposed to being unique.
I also decided I'm going to do something a little crazy with my hair when I return to HK, 5 weeks from now.
Anyway, I don't have any photos to show, so I will give a vivid description of what it is like here.

Really really really really fucking hot.
I will return one day when it is Winter in HK, with a suitcase of cash in hand.

Well, day after exams.
Time slows, you know.

I made a new flickr account since my last one has refused to respond, ever since flickr merged with yahoo.
I hate these big company mergeances. The reason I hate Yahoo is because they require all your personal details.
And you don't know what the hell they're doing with all this information!

Time to post an entry!

I`ve just finished this life changing university course.
I can`t even begin to describe how good its been for me.
There was this one exercise where you need to write an autobiography.
Basically, you write about all the past events you have that still give you that nasty twinge when you think back to them.
And you write about it in as much detail as possible.
Then it`s marked by other people in the class.
It`s kind of like therapy!

Anyway, I was surprised that it worked at all.
But now, twinges gone.
And for me, that`s alot haha.

Okay, this was originally going to be a booklist, but it will take too long.

Instead, I will blog about a few nice discoveries I have made :).

This is a wonderful game, especially for people who enjoy amazing art and attention to detail. Really, the attention to detail is :D!
The only problem is that it's too short.
Anyway, the game is free to play, just google it.
Version 2 needs to be paid for, but there are ways around it ...

Grow Island/Cube/and many more ...

Another seriously cute game, but a little different.
Very original. You basically click random features to add to the environment. The order is important if you want your environment to flourish.
Very addictive :D.

Anyway, I will be watching UP in a couple of hours ... finally!!

I haven't posted in a while...
Hmm, what to say?
Later on, I'm doing a music swap with Kevin.
I was looking through my music ... looks like my taste has changed a lot.
It reminds me of the idea that university is more a process of enculturation than anything else.

The thing I'm scared of is mistaking personal taste for blind mimickry of people I admire.
Anyway, I have a long time to go.
It reminds me of this part of the Odyssey that Justin was telling me about.

There is this ship they use throughout their journey.
Throughout the journey, the ship is damaged many times and each part of the ship is replaced at least once.
By the time they reach their destination, no single plank of wood on the ship was present when they first embarked on their journey.
So ... is that ship the same ship?
If it is, what makes it the same ship?

I did a painting for my mother for mother's day.

Alienation is a common thing, I'm told, but part of the experience is feeling as though you're the only one with the feeling.
It can really break a person.
I've been trying to talk with new people,
it's nice taking upper year courses because there is less of the I only associate with people who I've known for 10 years type attitudes that you get from people who've just graduated from high school.
I also want to become less superficial, but how do you do that when you are still young, and in a field surrounded by designers? The obsession with marks is no less superficial than the obsession with appearances.

I have a course where we will be expected to write an autobiography.
I sincerely hope it will not be as difficult digging up old memories as it seems currently.

Anyway,
I will end with this wonderfully cynical quote from Voltaire:

Happy Chinese New Year !!

I spent my weekend celebrating it, with food food and lots of food.
That means this week junk food is out.
And my beloved lattes. Ahhhh.

Anyway, while my distended stomach slowly makes its way back to its usual shape, I've been catching up on all the internet I've been missing out on over the weekend ^__^!

I decided to make a new homepage for myself, since Netvibes wasn't really doing it for me. The only thing I used it for was the embedded gmail box, and the rest of the news seemed kinda useless. So my new thing for the day is:

Yes, that's Lindsay Lohan. I will attempt to explain myself ... it's a scan from Nylon, a magazine that I would love to subscribe to, but is probably something like $40 an issue. But what I've seen of it is very impressive.. super-conventionally styled stars managing to pull off very nice, edgy outfits. I like ^^!

Right, the other thing I decided to do is compile a wishlist. :)
And this is where you get to see the extent to which I'm squandering what little time I have before my truckload of assignments/exams catches up to me :D!

Recession

I didn't really think that the recession would have any effect on my family, but I suppose it's going to have an impact on anything that has to interact with the world. It's making me want to stay young. I'm not ready to support myself yet. I might be able to go through the processes needed to practically earn the money, but I can't take on the load of knowing that if I screw up then I'll be on the streets. I'm surprised anyone can do it, actually.

Which is why I'm currently in a Peter Pan type I don't want to grow up mood.
I have ceased to complain about school, because learning is a hell of alot more fun than some repetitive office job.

Let's see how long this lasts (hahahahahaha).

Anyway, onto pictures, because I never blog without pictures :).

First thing's first, I got a haircut! ^___^.

I know I know, it's popular and going to get overdone really soon.
Well, I didn't realise and I don't care D:.

Next, what new thing have I done?
Well some stuff not interesting enough to warrant a photo, but I did get my circle lenses, which means I tried putting on contact lenses for the first time :)!

Oh and lastly, I've been rewatching Skins (Holla, Vein ! :D). Mainly because I was afraid I was unwittingly giving into the nasal North American accent, but once I started I just could not stop! And in a couple of hours (hopefully), the first episode of SKINS3 WILL BE AIRING. OH DEAR GOD I CAN NOT WAIT.

Anyway, I am in love with both Cassie and Effy, because not only do they have the best characters, they have the best fashion in the show:

Because the insomnia is killing me.
I can't sleep, I can't stay awake.

Luckily, it's the beginning of term, and even if I were applying my full attention in class, by the time midterms roll around, I'd probably have forgotten everything already anyway. And I have a feeling the profs know that, which is why we're being loaded with either mundane or unintelligible material.
Anyway, it's probably too early in the semester to be ranting about school.

So, onto the new thing I did today!

I used Photoshop Actions.
Hah. I've been using Photoshop for so long, but I've never used these things.
So, I had a little fun.

Though I'll admit, after the initial discovery, I was a little disappointed to find that most actions are just rips of eachother, and I could do a better job in the same time it takes to complete the damn action. Regardless, some were pretty nice, and I can see me using these alot when I'm feeling too lazy to modify all my pics. Haha.

New Year

First day of school. Not too eventful, but it feels like it will be a good semester. Hopefully the feeling doesn't subside as rapidly as my excitement about the snow. Hah.

The one interesting thing that happened today was I decided on a New Years Resolution.
Yes, a New Years Resolution.
Because every year I make a useless list of about 20 resolutions,
with the usual
Lose weight
Ace school
Improve drawing skills
etc, etc.

And it never happens. Well, occasionally I see a small improvement but I'm thinking I should be looking to greater things. Hah, listen to me.

So here it is..

Try something new everyday.

I remember the famous Youtube Vlogger sxephil saying something about new experiences causing development in the brain. That sounds pretty vague thanks to my pretty vague memory, so I did a little more research.

There was this one article:

New Experiences Enhance Coordinated Neural Activity in the Hippocampus.
The only part of the abstract that was of particular interest was this:
... hippocampal neural activity during learning has a unique structure that is well suited to induce synaptic plasticity and to allow for rapid storage of new memories.
Roughly translated, it means that as we are exposed to new experiences, the brain will restructure itself to become better and better at adapting to new experiences. Think of it as evolution on a cellular level.

Anyway, I'm too lazy to summarize more of the articles I was reading, but there's some pretty good research out there. I mean, it's like exercise for the brain.

So, I'm going to focus on what new things I've done each day now.
It's already January 5th, so I'm not gonna bother with thinking of something new that corresponds to each day that's passed, but I think I can come up with a few haha.

1. Shopping at vintage stores with goombi

Bought the wonderful bag and boots you see featured here!

2. Did a massive reorganization of my place on my own!
(and along with that used a hand drill for the first time in my life haha)

3. Played SPORE

4. Tried out a headwrap with a scarf.

Anyway.. 久しぶりだね!

Let's start with events from a little while back :)!

I think this was from Thanksgiving.
Food seems to be unfailingly photogenic :)!

My watch has been sitting on my desk for a while screaming to be filled with a battery.

I came home to a surprise one day!
My friend decided to construct a family of three snowmen outside my front door.
So, of course, I had to take a family portrait ^^!

Christmas rolled by shortly after.

We had a wonderful, stereotypically Asian dinner!

Hot pot is like BBQ's winter counterpart. Minimal preparation, perfect for big groups of people to all get involved in the food. Yuuummmmm!

Oh yes, I do love how photogenic food is. Hehehe.

There was this adorable little girl running around with my friend's DSLR taking photographs of everyone.

After hotpot we ran downstairs to make huge racket around the foosball table.
It was surprisingly fun :]!
